Lot 1716:
Cover with King Pedro V (curled hair), 25 reis rose, private zig-zag rouletting (Scott 11 var.), used as a seal across the flap of a blue folded address sheet sent from Lisbon to Porto; address side with Lisboa 20 May 1862 postmark and “1” in circular grid postmark, the stamp on reverse tied by numeral grid cancel and Porto May 22 receiver, left margin uneven, stamp was torn horizontally upon opening. Portugal started perforating stamps beginning around 1860, with the first experiments carried out by private commercial firms, in this case by Eisenach & Co. of Lisbon. Ex- Washburne.
