Lot 2154:
India * 1914 – 4th Centenary of the Discovery of the Sea Route to India, with “REPUBLICA” overprint and surcharge, typeset locally. MF305, 1 ½ réis w/o 4 ½ réis, red, dotted paper, perforation 15. Complete sheet with 25 new stamps, ungummed, unrepaired, with some stamps separating due to the perforation, in good colour, with “1” without a point on the first stamp, with “1” of “½“ INVERTED in position 4, with a broken “S” in position 25 (uncatalogued variety). To produce the local surcharge, the sheets of 100 stamps were divided into 4 sheets of 25 stamps, as local printers did not allow printing on larger sheets.
